A few articles....We took the coach on a Sunday at 8pm; we arrived in the morning on the Monday at the Harbor. We took the boat to England. We visited Canterbury and a brewery (a beer’s factory). After that we went to our families’. That was the end of the first day. On the next morning, we visited the London city center, had a picnic and did some shopping at Covent Garden. On the following morning we went to Harrow School. After the picnic we visited the Chelsea Stadium (Stamford Bridge). On the Thursday we did some shopping in Brighton and took the train back home.

                                      FOOD IN ENGLAND

Their life is different of us:

In the morning of Sunday, the typically English breakfast is made of eggs, bacons, sausages…

They don’t eat French bread: They have toast. They don’t, usually, like our French “saucisson”.

They don’t know the sugar cube. They use a teaspoon to doze the sugar.

Moreover the English eat French “pain de mie”, cocoa is made of water and chocolate.

They do not eat much meat.

Often, they drink a lot of bear in the pub.

Always, at five o’clock p.m, they drink English tea.

We  visited Harrow school, on the Wednesday morning. It’s a school  which is situated on a  hill of the same name. The students wear  uniforms with hats.  In the school, there are boys only. The school is  famous and very strict. Each student lives in a  house with other students.

The school is very big. There are a swimming pool, sports grounds, a golf course, seven hectares of lawn… They have a lecture hall, a church and a room where a scene of Harry Potter was shot.

The families‘welcome

Before going to England, the English teachers gave us a little card where the names, addresses and phone numbers of our host families were written.

When we arrived in England (under heavy rain!!!!!!!!) we were directed to our families. We ran to their cars and, when we arrived in the family’s homes, they asked us questions to get to know us. We couldn’t talk a lot with them because they weren’t with us a lot.

In our family for breakfast, there wasn’t milk in our hot chocolate but hot water instead.

In England, houses are made of red bricks. We didn’t like the food we ate very much because it is both salty and sweet (fish and cheese for example).  There was too much fish in our sandwiches and we didn’t like it. The crisps were very tasty. Kevin’s family was very nice because she welcomed him with a sweet. But Antoine’s family (a grandmother) was not very nice because she didn’t speak with him.

We arrived in England by boat, we went to Canterbury and visited a brewery and went to the pub for a drink of coca cola. After that we went to meet our families in Tonbridge. On the next day we went to London, we saw the changing of the guards and horse guards. We visited Madame Tussaud’s museums , it was super, the wax sculptures are very realistic. And in the evening, we ate in a pizzeria. On the Wednesday , in the morning we visited a typical English school and in the afternoon we went to visit the mytic Standford Bridge stadium. Then we went back to Tonbridge. On the following morning, we packed ours suitcases and went to Brighton to visit the Royal Pavillon. After our visit we ate in the Royal Pavillon park, in the afternoon we had some free time and we finally took a Eurostar under the Channel, we arrived at Calais in the evening. On the Friday morning we arrived at Macon to have a breakfast. We arrived at St Genest Malifaux at ten o’clock. On the whole, I think the English aren’t very good cooks and some people aren’t welcoming - some families didn’t speak with us… But the visits were very interesting, England is a beautiful country. We enjoyed our trip very much. We have visited the town of Canterburry, the Mrs Tussaud’s museum, Big Ben, Tower Bridge, the Brighton royal pavillon.

In England, we are one hour early. In Harrow School they wear uniforms and  hats.

The Channel Tunnel was good but the journey was short, and the ferry was wonderful.

In our family, the food was the same as in France.

The museum of Mrs Tussaud’s, with the wax statues was great !

 * The problem we all live with

The men are wearing rings; the girl is carrying books and a ruler because she is going at the school.

She is wearing a white dress and socks and trainers.

The men are wearing light grey uniforms.

They are walking near a house and we can see tomatoes.

I think there are racists and that this is a problem.

The men are wearing yellow bracelets and they are wearing black ties.

The painter is called Norman Rockwell and he is American.

She has got black hair.

The years 7 A and B worked on "Moving Day" for 2 or 3 hours, here is their comment. (You can see the painting on various sites on the net.)

Comment on
"Moving Day", by Norman Rockwell  by the year 7A :
We think it's summer because it's sunny, the sky is blue, and it's hot. This is in
the United States of America.
Three white children and two black children are standing on a pavement, near
a removal van. They are looking at each other. We think the black children are moving to
a new house. The black girl is wearing a pink or white dress, white socks and black sandals.
She's carrying a white cat. The black boy is wearing a white shirt, grey and white shorts,
white socks and grey trainers. A white boy is wearing a white cap, a white T-shirt, white
trousers, blue and white socks and black shoes. The tall white boy is wearing a yellow
sweater, black trousers and white shoes.  A dog is sitting between his legs. The girl -or is
this a boy ? - behind the tall white boy is wearing a beige T-shirt, black shorts, white socks
and black shoes.
The man in the van is carrying the furniture to the garden. The armchair is
next to the lamp.
Some students don't like this painting, they think it's about racism.
Comment on "Moving Day", by Norman Rockwell  by the year 7B :
This is painting by Norman Rockwell, an American artist.
We think it's summer. It's sunny.
Two black children and a white cat are moving and three white children and a black
dog are looking at them and asking questions. They're standing next to a removal van. The
black children are in front of the house. The children are from seven to twelve years old. The
black girl is wearing a white dress, white socks and black shoes. She's carrying a white cat.
The dog and the cat are looking at each other. They are not running. Some students think
the white children are racist.
A man is in the removal van. He's carrying furniture to the garden in front of the
house. The lamp is behind the orange armchair in the garden, near the black girl.

Soon to come....In May, the years 7 A,B, C and D are going to publish many new comments on various paintings by Norman Rockwell.
